During the service last night, Melodie shared an excellent process for NAMING YOUR YEAR. Below I have listed the questions to consider in identifying what God is doing your life right now.
She also shared an excellent illustration of the value of this practice. She likened it to when our family goes to the beach. She and I park on some beach chairs enjoying the sun. Our kids go out to play in the water. She instructs them, "keep your eye on where we are and keep adjusting".
We all understand this principle. The current of the water will gradually carry swimmers away from their starting point. If you don't adjust the pressure of the current, you will find yourself a long ways away from where you began.
Identifying a theme or name for your year becomes like a point of reference to which we can adjust and return. The pressure, stress, temptations, and trials of life will serve as a current during the next 12 months. If we are not careful, we will find ourselves drifting away from what God is calling us to do and be. So when we declare a NAME for this new year, we remind ourselves of what God is trying to accomplish in our lives.
So here are the questions that we encouraged people to think through. I pray God speaks to you about His direction and theme for your life this year.
Step Two: List one or two Bible promises that have been meaningful to you recently.
Step Three: List some personal changes you are asking God to help you to make.
Step Four: Decide on a word or phrase the summarizes God's work in your life for this new year.
