As I meditated on what Rick said yesterday, there were several quotes that stood out to me.
- Every year since the time I was married my wife and I increased the percentage of our tithe. The first year we gave 10%. The next year 11%. Every year we gave more. Some years when it was tight we would keep it level.
- God and I have a deal, every year we try to out-give each other. Every year I LOSE.
- God has now blessed me beyond my wildest dreams. The Purpose Driven Life Book is not the best selling hardback book in history (except for the Bible). That has provided me with great affluence and influence. I realize the need to be a steward of affluence and influence.
- When you write a book that begins with the phrase, ITS NOT ABOUT YOU!, I have to assume that all that money is not for me to use. So my wife and I have now become reverse tithers. We give 90% to God and keep ten to live on. We have not changed our lifestyle. We live in the same house and drive the same cars.
- We paid back the church the salary for the first 25 years of our ministry at Saddleback.
- We are now called to consult with some of the most wealthy and important leaders in the world. So I had to ask myself, what am I to do with my influence?
- God spoke to me, 'use your influence to speak for those who have no voice! (the orphan, the widow, the poor, the aids victim). That's why we launched the P.E.A.C.E. Plan to help mobilize people to deal with the greatest of the world's problems.'
- We are in need of a new reformation. 500 years ago the first reformation was about CREEDS. But now, we know what we believe. What is needed now is to bring our lives in conformance with what we say we believe. The next reformation will be about DEEDS.
My favorite of all the quotes Rick said. This was in the context the idea that the church is more known now for what we are against than what we are for. He talked about how we often fail to to truly live in love and act out in faith.
- In the past few decade the Church at large has lost its hands and feet and has become one big MOUTH.
Ouch! God give us deeds. Help us be known for our love and our righteousness and not just for our self-righteousness.
John Maxwell just completed his morning session. You can read the notes from his session entitled HOW TO ADD VALUE TO PEOPLE.
"We are in need of a new reformation. 500 years ago the first reformation was about CREEDS. But now, we know what we believe. What is needed now is to bring our lives in conformance with what we say we believe. The next reformation will be about DEEDS"
This is a great qoute . . . unfortunately I think Mr.Warren may be out of touch with the current state of Evangelical thought. From sitting in many churches it is obvious that many "Pastors" do not know what they should believe.
For example - saying Kenneth Hagin is a sound Biblical teacher does not show a knowledge of the truth of scripture.
