I began my week with the privilege of speaking at ELEMENT CHURCH in Millvale. What a great group of people and such a cool location at Mr. Smalls Theater.
On Tuesday, I drove across the state of PA to Valley Forge Christian College. Tuesday evening, I had the honor of having dinner with President Meyers, his wife Evie, and my parents (Jim & Becky Leake). We were at VFCC - because they had asked my father (who is an Alumus - 1961) and I to TEAM-PREACH during the Wednesday morning Chapel Service.
Our topic for Chapel was - VALUES THAT ARE WORTH HOLDING ONTO. Methods and styles change with every new generation. But VALUES should stay the same. We talked about four values (I talked about two and my father talked about two).
- Humility
- Expectency
- Integrity
- Generosity
What an honor and privilege it is to be able to share the pulpit with my father and to attempt to live out these values that he has modeled for me over the years.
Wednesday evening, after several meetings with people on campus, I took my daughter Alissa (who is a freshman at VFCC) out to eat Chinese food and then to do some 'crazy Christmas sweater' shopping at Goodwill. Alissa and her best friend Janelle bought some perfectly horrendous looking old sweaters.
Thursday was a day in Philadelphia. I was able to see Leah and Brad Leach's home in South Philly where they are preapring to plant a church next year. Brad shared an amazing message about the importance of CHURCH PLANTING at APC this past weekend. You can read about it or watch it here.
Brad and I were able to take Otto Wegner (Pastor of Highway Tabernacle in Philly) and Tim McKitrick (VP of Advancement at CBC) to lunch. What a rich time of discussion about what's happening at Central Bible College - as well as what's happening in Philadelphia...two places close to my heart.
Friday morning I met for coffee with Rocco Ditrolio, who is a church planting missionary from Argentina. Currently Rocco is serving as the Missionary in Residence on the staff of VFCC. Rocco is working to plant many churches all throughout Argentina. After a great discussion about church planting, I took my daughter out to lunch (good excuse for her to avoid cafeteria food).
Tonight, I will be teaching the final class in this semester's URBAN MINISTRY and CHURCH PLANTING COURSE at VFCC. Brad Leach, Brian Bolt, and I are adjunct faculty and teaching a group of 15 students in these two courses. Most of these credit for these courses has come through the students serving at one of the church plants in Pittsburgh or Philly. But tonight is the final of the teaching sessions.
Following the class I will return to Pittsburgh. Looking forward to launching the ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS SERIES at APC this weekend.
